Christine Deschamps, IFLA's President, has been the Director of the Library of the University Paris V (René Descartes) since 1993. From 1989 until 1993 she was Chef de Bureau in the Ministère de l'Education Nationale, in charge of all academic libraries' automation, networking, interlibrary loan and union catalogues. In 1988 she was Director of the ISSN Centre. She spent 13 years working as a medical librarian in the largest medical library in France, first as a reference librarian and then as Director of the Library of the University of Paris VII (Denis Diderot). Ms Deschamps serves on the Board of Directors of OCLC. In 1998 she was awarded the Insignia de Chevalier de l'Order National du Mérite, because of her international commitment within IFLA, but also because of her work with OCLC.
